Christmas give away

Hellooooo - over here for the sew mama sew give away.

welcome to my little blog..... I'm glad you popped in.

Over the last few months I have been going pouch crazy, and so simply had to include one of my wide mouthed pouches for you to win.  And I know that people like to win fabric that they can use to make things themselves, so there are also four fat quarters of fabric..... and some zips - so you are kind of winning your own make a zippy pouch kit!  For good tutorials for pouches try this link.

So what do you need to do to enter?

Please leave me a comment telling me what make and model of sewing machine you have, and what you love about it.

I am starting my research to buy a new sewing machine next year and would love to hear your recommendations (or models to avoid).

I will post internationally so the give away is open to everyone.

I will pick a random number on Friday 7th December to choose a winner.

Nice seeing you here!

Tanya x

  1. I have a Pfaff Quilt Expression 4.0. It's just ok, I wouldn't purchase it if I had to do it all over again.

  2. Love your pouch! I just bought a Janome 6600, got a good price since it was used. It got good reviews, and is great for quilting, not like my very old Huskvarna (that is great for piecing though)! Good luck with your shopping!!!

  3. What a fun giveaway! I do all my sewing on a 1951 Singer Sewing machine and love it!

  4. I love your pouch! I'm planning on making a couple for Christmas. I still have time, right? hehe. Thanks for the link as well. I have a Viking, a Lily. I love my little machine. There are some fancy stitches that I have not even used yet.

Thank you for a great giveaway and a chance to win.

  5. I have a Bernina, an 820 and I luv it because the dealer supports me wonderfully. A good dealer is better than and good deal!

    ReplyDelete
  6. I have a Janome Memory Craft 6600. I love the fabric cut feature, the bobbin winding feature, all the decorative stitches, and the needle down button. The only thing I do not like is its weight. Very heavy, not fun to lug to classes. My MIL just got a Brother at a great price. Originally $450 for just $150. It has a start/stop button, envious of that.

  7. I do all of my sewing on a 1953 Singer named Agatha, and I love it!

  8. Hi Tanya. I think that your pouches are fab. I sew on a Brother SE350 and it is a real workhorse. I don't regret buying this make and model at all. Good luck with your research. Di x

  9. I have a completely boring and normal sewing machine, it's not even a proper brand, and it's 10+ years old. I don't think I actually love anything about it, but it fits its purpose and my mum has kind of ignored the fact that I kinda pinched it from her, because it's actually my mum's sewing machine.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I use the basic Janome 2212. I've just been sewing for a year so I'm a newbie. I love my machine but I might be ready for an upgrade.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I have two - a Husqvarna Angelica (I've had it for over 10 years). It's good for sewing clothes, etc. But I had to upgrade to a monster so I could quilt. I've got a Juki TL2000qi (or something like that). I heart my Juki. Only does a straight stitch, but she is a workhorse. Nothing plasticky about this machine.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I have a Singer, but I'm not sure what model. I love the ease of switching between stitches.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I have a Bernina 440 and there is nothing about it that I don't just LOVE! She is perfect! I highly recommend them. Oh, and what I wouldn't do to get my hands on some of that sewing tape fabric - lovely giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Great prize - love the pouch! I have a Bernina 153, which is about 10 years old. I has had a LOT of use and sews like a dream. I don't know that I would buy one of those huge Berninas (how would you take it to a class?), but I would definitely recommend the brand.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I have a pfaff 130 and I love it! But good luck finding one - my grwat-grandma bought it in 1953!! :) steeplechaser29 at yahoo

  16. I have a Kenmore, it is very basic but I love it. Not sure it is still made though.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I have a Brother embroidery machine and the girls have a smaller Brother. Not sure of model numbers.

    Thanks for a fun giveaway!

  18. I have a Kenmore - not sure of the model. It's fine for me right now!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Thanks for the fun giveaway! My current machine is an inexpensive Brother, a CS6000i. It's adequate for me and had good reviews on Amazon, but it isn't at all jazzy.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Lovely giveaway! I have a Singer from 1890. ;) Lots of upkeep and mechanical care-taking and repair, I don't recommend it! LOL But I do love using this historical machine.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I have a vintage Singer 15-91 from 1951 and I love it. It was in pristine shape (truly off the showroom floor perfect) and I only paid $50 for it with the cabinet! It purrs like a dream. I have to play around to get the tension right, but I am learning more about it every day. Thanks for the chance to win!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I have a 9 year old, fairly basic Kenmore. I really love it actually. There isn't much that I wish it did, that it isn't capable of doing.

  23. I have a Bernina handed down from my grandmother.

    ReplyDelete
  24. a brother cs6000 I just got it and I love that it has the extended table for quilting the different stitches for me to choose from and most of all..I haven't had any tension problems with it.. last two machines drove me bonkers with tension issues.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I use a Toyota quiltmaster, it is a good little machine, but I would love a Juki.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Love the pouch. I have a pfaff quilt expression 4, and I wouldn't necessarily buy it again either. It's great for piecing but I hate to FMQ on it - which was what I bought it for! I resort to an old bernina to quilt anything. I keep debating if I should sell it or not. I think I'd then get a Juki or Janome 1600.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Cute pouch, who doesn't love a giveaway??!! I have a Pfaff, and they're good machines, but I think the throat space would be one of my big focuses if i bought a new machine, it would make it so much easier to do "big" quilts! : )

    ReplyDelete
  28. I have a Brother Innovis 400N. I love the quilting table and the knee lever, it makes quilting so much easier. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Lovely giveaway - I must try that wide mouth pouch tutorial. OK I have a 99k Singer, hand powered and gorgeous, great for the children to have a go on and nice to free motion applique on. I have a Janome 110 which I've had for 17 yrs! It is outstanding, been serviced twice and works like a dream. However I have a new machine...a Janome Horizon, it arrived in October as a business investment, treat to myself (I never treat myself), expensive but I got a great deal on it. I love it, it has a much wider throat space than my little Janome so is great to quilt with. The plan is it will last me forever so that's how I justified the expense and I don't regret it! There are some good reviews online too which helped my decision!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I was lucky enough to get my mum's Husqvarna Viking, it's over 30 years old and still going strong! A lovely machine that does all that I ask of it. :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. I have a low model Bernina (i think 230?). It's been kind of a lemon, most people love their Berinina's, mine is a bit temperamental. If I could do it again, I would get a higher model. Wish I had the presser bar for lifting the foot with my knee and the better lighting that comes with the higher model.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Lovely giveaway, I have a singer 8280 and enjoy working on it :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. I have a Bernette E61. I just love it because it's the first machine i own, the only one i've used and where i am learning!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I have a Kenmore that is over 10 years old. I do not even know what model.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I have a Pfaff 7570 that I got from my grandma. I love it!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I have 3 sewing machines in total. My 20 year old Janome that I'd out grown and was starting to play up - although it had never been serviced so might have been fine with a service, a Brother that I was given by a friend who didn't take to sewing which I love for FMQ work but not for regular sewing. It has a really slow to start jerky movement about it that seems to help me when FMQ but not regular sewing. Then I treated myself to a Janome 5900QC which is aimed at quilters. There are lots of great features with it like a stop/start button and needle up needle down button which basic machines don't tend to have. I really like the Janome brand so didn't look at any other machines.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I have a Singer 5160 (I think that's the number). My favorite thing? It was on clearance at Target for about $100. That's why I bought it initially (I didn't have a machine and wanted one). But it's really nice. Lots of stitch patterns, easy to use, does a good job, easy to move around (not too heavy), and it came with a bunch of accessories (different feet, spare needles).

It's a great first/starter/beginner machine that's growing with me as I get more advanced (I'm going to try out that zipper foot in the next few days!).

    ReplyDelete
  38. I have a Janome HT2008LE. I love her dearly. Her name is Red.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I have an older Janome. I love it! I am a beginning quilter and this machine was recommended to me. I think I got the last one of this model, but I'd do a Janome again in a minute.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Several, but my favorite is the 1936 singer featherweight

    ReplyDelete
  41. I have the Janome 10001 and love everyhting about it - including the embroidery.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I have a Janome 6600 and 11000 - they are the best. I bought my daughter a 6500 and she loves it.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I get by on my little Brother cs6000i, it sews beautifully, but I do long for more quilting room, and am saving my pennies for something larger. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  44. Last Christmas my husband surprized me with a Husqvarna Viking Sapphire 870 Quilt sewing machine. It has a lot of good features, lots of decorating stitches - I just need to purchase the floating free motion foot (hint hint Santa!). Thanks for the fun give away!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I have a Janome...something. I can't check right now, but I really love it!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I just bought a Brother cs-6000i, but I haven't had a chance to use it yet!!!

    ReplyDelete
  47. I have a Janome Harmony, a Sears special model, more of a general/intro machine. I want to upgrade next year, though.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I have a Janome Magnolia and I love the heck out of it. I need to explore more of its capabilities!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I have a Brother cs-6000i and it works for what I'm doing now, but I would love to upgrade as it's hard to quilt on!

    ReplyDelete
  50. I have a Viking 6570 (bought when I graduated from college in 1980) works fabulous and I would never replace her! thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  51. I have a Bernina 350PE. I like that it's working so far. =) My brother gave me grief.

Thanks for a chance to win.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I have a Bernina Activa 220 and I love it! Avoid anything by Toyota...

    ReplyDelete
  53. i just got myself a janome horizon this summer, and i adore it. i love that it has a start/stop button (don't need to use a foot pedal!), the wide space between the needle and the arm, and the gazillion of stitch options!

    ReplyDelete
  54. I have a Brother SE350 and like that it embroiders - a feature I need to use more!
    Thanks for the great giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  55. I have a Singer Simple and I love that it only cost me $70 and hasn't died after three years. I don't love anything else about it, lol. (I've almost saved enough for a new machine, but I'm not sure what I'm getting yet...) xo

    ReplyDelete
  56. jaonme 6600. Love the machine, does great FMQ

    ReplyDelete
  57. I have a Brother CS6000i and it gets the job done well. The stitches are great and I have had no problems from it at all. It's pretty cheap, too-- around $200

  58. I have an old machine from PRIVILEG, its about 30 years old and hmm.. i love that it has no computer in it and i can open it and clean it without worrying ;)

    Have a nice time !

    ReplyDelete
  59. I have a Bernina 440QE (they no longer make this model). Things I love about it: I can move the needle over in tiny increments - helps with getting a scant 1/4" seam; the Stitch Regulator helps me with my quilting; the needle down feature is something I use all the time; a powerful motor; the knee lift is convenient too. Berninas are expensive but they have special financing which is how I purchased mine. Thanks for the giveaway.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I have a Janome that my mum gave me - it's basic but still does the job well!

    ReplyDelete
  61. I have a Husqvarna Lily!
Great apart from the walking foot which is so fiddly to fit!

    ReplyDelete
  62. I've got an old Singer from 1927, it's really really lovely sewing with it. It doesn't make anything special but it can sew everything and the stitch is really nice.
I don't know anything about mother sewing machines.
I've also got an overlock: Brother 1034D

    ReplyDelete
  63. I have a basic kenmore, I love it because it is a workhorse...just keeps going and going.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I have a Bernina 330, it's got great tension, sews anything, never skips stitches, I really like it.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I have a Pfaff Smart 200c and there isn't much I love about it. It's a nice machine, I do like it, but I quilt and this guy is tiny for quilting. Plus it is a weird size model, so I have to be very careful when I buy parts for it. I'd love a Janome Horizon 7700 if I won the lottery. :)

    ReplyDelete
  66. Great giveaway! I love all zip pouches, and the fat quarters are so cute! I have a Janome-the discontinued Marie Osmond one (not sure of the model) I love it! So easy to use, and lots of great features. Good Luck in your search.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I have a Viking something or another. It is probably 6 or 8 years old but I still love it. So much so that my friend just bought a new one with a large throat area. She loves hers too. Thanks for participating in the giveaway day.

  68. HI! SWEET GIVEAWAY!

  69. Thanks for the giveaway. I am using Brother GS2700

    ReplyDelete
  70. My machine is a Janome 9000. Sadly they don't make them anymore, but if you found a used one in good condition I'd snatch it up! I love everything about it, but especially the knee lift, the wide range of stitches, and the fact that it never gives me any trouble. This machine was a hand-me-down from my MIL and I have used it probably 10 years after she gave it to me. Best hand-me-down ever!

    ReplyDelete
  71. Love your zip pouch! I have a Viking Lilly sewing machine. I love it especially for home machine quilting. It is now 10 years old and still running great!

    ReplyDelete
  72. I have a Bernina from about 1988 - fully mechanical, but still sews great. My mum gave it to me when she got her fancy machine (Bernina Aurora 440QE) and it has had a lot of use over the years, including by some not very skilled operators (i.e., me, aged 8 or 9). If(when) I buy a new machine, I will very likely go Bernina, because I think they are really good quality. I would also really recommend one of the older bernina models as a starting out machine - I think they are great value for money and much better than a little cheapy model which will inevitably be problematic.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I have a Brother NX-450Q and love it.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I have a Brother, but I have no clue what model. Numbers just don't stick in my head. The other day I told someone the wrong birthdate for my son!! Lol.
Anyway, it's a really basic model and was my Christmas present last year and I LOVE it, but I am a new sewer so I'm pretty much just thrilled to have a functional sewing machine-it's my first new sewing machine and such an improvement over the barely-functional-hand-me-down I had before!

    ReplyDelete
  75. singer curvy- i love its simplicity!

    ReplyDelete
  76. I have a Janome HD1000. I love the straight lines I can sew and the fact that it doesn't wobble if you go fast.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Viking Designer 1 and I love everything about it.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I have an Elna 2130 (I think that is the right order for the numbers) and it is a good mid range machine.

    ReplyDelete
  79. It's a Bernina Activa 220....I've loved everything about it...it's a mid-range machine...not the highest computer model they have.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I have a Bernina 1630 that my Mother in Law gave to me. I love that it was so easy to learn to sew on and is a great quality machine.
Thanks for such a great giveaway.

  81. I have a Janome MC6600P. I love that the needle can be moved, the needle up/down feature, the top loading bobbin with clear cover and the roomy (compared to my old machine) throat size for machine quilting. Thanks for the chance at your giveaway.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I have an old kenmore, and I love that since it is a hand-me-down from my mother it was free :)

  83. I don't know what model my sewing machine is, but it's a pretty low-line Kenmore from about 10 years ago. I think it was the second least expensive one they sold, and what I like about it is that it just keeps on trucking, regardless of the fact that I've never had it serviced and I'm too lazy even to clean lint from it very often. (I do it, just... not regularly.)

  84. I have a Janome DC5100. It is a wonderful little machine. The price was right and it's digital. I love the extra feet I've bought for it. I haven't found anything it can't do and I've had it for about 18 months or so. My only regret is that I bought before I learned to quilt. I find that the arm is quite short and requires a lot of small adjustments when I try to quilt with my machine. Not impossible, just time consuming.

    ReplyDelete
  85. I know my machine is an Elna.

  86. I got a BabyLock used and ADORE it. It is just right for what I am doing - quilting, making clothes or hemming my daughter's jeans.

    ReplyDelete
  87. I have a used Pfaff 1473, and I just LOVE it! The dual feed makes it easier to match seams, and I love the needle-down, tie off, and snail buttons too.

    ReplyDelete
  88. I have an old Kenmore that I got from my boyfriend! It seems amazing compared to the machine I used to use which was a 1960's BABY BLUE singer which was a hand me down from my mother, and which no one ever taught me how to use- so it worked horribly! The kenmore feels delux to me and I never even think about getting a new one- until now!! thanks for the great giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  89. I bought Janome 2050.. but that didn't last long. now I'm using a second hand Viking Hursqvana 6690.. which is way super great at great price - way cheaper than the new Janome.. I love it so much.

    ReplyDelete
  90. I use a $99 brother that I bought at Walmart. I loved the price - I don't love when I have tension troubles (that only happens when I try to FMQ, thank goodness I'm a hand quilter).

    ReplyDelete
  91. I have a Singer Inspiration. I have had no problems with it, but it's fairly basic, so I probably would only recommend it for a beginner who didn't want to pay too much for a decent machine. If I ever had to replace it I would go for something a little more fancy :)

    ReplyDelete
  92. You might not want to know what sewing machine I use....they are all very old antiques [straight stitches mostly, one does have zigzag though], then there is one that is as basic as it gets that I picked up for less than $75 from a local 'big box' chain store to use when I make button holes.

  93. I have a Pfaff Quilt Expression. I love it because I know how to use it! LOL. It is pretty good at free motion, too.

    ReplyDelete
  94. I have a Viiking Husky Star - it's pretty basic, I got it about 10 years ago and only started sewing properly this year, I think I will need an upgrade at some point!

    ReplyDelete
  95. I have 2 Pfaffs, and my newer modern model is a Hobby Line - After 2 years I've outgrown it, but I love it. It's so quiet and I've never had any issues with it. My vintage 1970's Pfaff is also really great and sews through some pretty tough stuff. If I upgrade, I'll be looking at the pfaff ambition essential or the quilt expression. I can dream...
Thanks for hosting this giveaway! adriprints(at)yahoo(dot)com

    ReplyDelete
  96. I use a Universal Sewing Machine that used to be my grandmothers. I love it because it can handle the strain of quilting that I put it through and runs like a charm.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Bernina Artista 170 and I love it! thanks for the chance!

    ReplyDelete
  98. Well I just began sewing in August, so I don't have a fancy machine. It's a Brother LS2125i. When I was looking for a machine, my only requirements were inexpensive and relatively good ratings. I wanted to make sure that I was going to stick with sewing before I spent a lot of money on a machine. Overall it has been a good machine for me. I have quilted a queen size quilt on it and it held up. Obviously I wouldn't recommend it to someone like you who has been sewing, but it worked well for me as a beginning sewer! :) I'm going to bookmark this post, though, so that when I start looking for a new machine I'll have somewhere to start!

    ReplyDelete
  99. I've got a Pfaff Quilters Expression 4.0 and I love the high speed chain sewing on it, the stitches never fail, even at maximum speed, and it's only moderately loud even then.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Still haven't gotten my own sewing machine; when I don't hand stitch I use my mother's old machine. Thanks for the giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  101. I have a Bernina 1130. It is over 20 years old and still sews as well as the day I bought it.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I have a Brother 2600XL. It's a good beginner machine, but probably not something to look at if you already have one and are getting a new one.

    ReplyDelete
  103. I have an unfancy Brother cs6000i. I love it, though!

    ReplyDelete
  104. I use a borrowed janome and its older but works great!

    ReplyDelete
  105. I have a Brother CS6oooi, which I love... just wish I had a serger.

    ReplyDelete
  106. I have an older model Janome, My Excel 4014. I love that it's a workhorse that can sew through 4 layers of denim without missing a stitch. I also have a Brother 1034D serger which is so easy to use.

    ReplyDelete
  107. I have two Janomes - one that magically threads itself and one of their middle of the line sergers. I have been very happy with both. cynsaw2(at)yahoo(dot)ca

    ReplyDelete
  108. I have a babylock decorator's choice. I love that it has an automatic thread cutter.

    ReplyDelete
  109. I have a viking sapphire which is a quilting machine. It has a slightly larger throat so it is easier to stuff a bigger quilt through. I like it a lot.

    ReplyDelete
  110. I have just bought the new Husqvarna Viking Opal 670. I'm loving it for it's automatic tension, touch screen, scant 1/4" seaming, needle threader, automatic thread cutter and stop in needle down position.

    It sews like a dream.

    ReplyDelete
  111. I have a Pfaff expression 4.0. Larger throat area, automatic threader, needle down, etc. If it is threaded correctly it is a dream, if not, then ugh but mainly that is a user problem.

    ReplyDelete
  112. hi :) I bought a Janome SUV1122... it is my first sewing machine. I haven't had it a year yet and I wanting one that does more. Believe me, this does tons and I love it, but the grass is always greener LOL

    ReplyDelete
  113. I just have a basic Brother sewing machine that came from Walmart 10 years ago. It's been a good hard working machine that's survived dorm rooms and first apartments but I've been looking to upgrade this next year too!

    ReplyDelete
  114. Well I have a Brother CS-6000i, it was given to me as a gift. I have used the heck out of it and I too am in the market for a new one. I have been looking at Bernina's and Viking's, I hear the best things about them.

    ReplyDelete
  115. I have a Bernina Activa 131. It needs a tuneup, but I love it.

    ReplyDelete
  116. I love making pouches too...i do it on my brother machine, it is an older model, something 400...

    ReplyDelete
  117. Hello my friend :) I have an old Toyota - possibly 20 or 30 years old so I wouldn't recommend buying one (hahaha). Wonderful giveaway - thanks for the chance!

    ReplyDelete
  118. I have a Huskavarna Viking Sapphire 855 and I absolutely love it! It has a wide throat space which is awesome for quilting! If I ever get another machine I'll move up to the Topaz model so I can do digital embroidery too! Thanks so much for the wonderful giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  119. I have the basic Bernina 220 that I bought when I was 20. It works great & has lots of different attachments.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Bless you Tanya, I have three sewing machines! But I expect I can leave the Riccar overlocker out of the message! If you dressmake, or do curtains and stuff like that, an overlocker is wonderful, but embroidery? Patchwork- perhaps not. ASnd Riccar no longer exist, either, so you do not want one!
My love is with my 18 month old Bernina QE, a complete dream! Only she is having a new lamp fitted, and has been at the repair shop for WEEKS now, 'cos you cannot fit a new bulb yourself.
I also have a 25+ year old Singer Serenade 10. That was a mistake, though a good one. I did not think I would use the extra facilities on the next model up, and now I know I would have done. But she is a good old workhorse.
But the Bernina is wonderful!Free motion feet, Walking foot blissful blind hem foot which dooes all sorts else as well... I could go on...

  121. I have an older Babylock that, to my knowledge is no longer sold. It was bought years ago for my mom by my Gramma. It is a work horse and has really gone the second mile. I'm very happy with it, but it does lack decorative stitches. I only have one or two that I can fake as decorative.

  127. I'm not going to be much help, unfortunately! I have a very cheap Brother, but I sew so much that I've really outgrown it. I'm looking into getting a Janome. Good luck in your search and thanks for the great giveaway!

  128. I have a Brother LS-2125. It is very basic and I wouldn't recommend it except maybe for a little girl or boy to learn on, because it doesn't have many stitches and you can't do anything fancy like lowering the feed dogs.

  129. I have a Singer Simple. It was only $100 and it has been a great machine for a beginner like myself :)

  130. I have the Janome 7700 Horizon. It was the one large purchase in my life but worth every penny. I love everything about this machine. Of course I only had one other machine in my life and it was ancient lol

  131. I sew on a vintage Singer 401. I found it at a Salvation Army for $10 and I wouldn't sell it for $200. It just sews a straight stitch but it has a slant needle (like a featherweight) and it will sew through anything. Multiple layers of denim is no problem!

  132. I sew on a Janome 460QDC machine. Hubby got it for me off the Shopping Channel. And I love it! It's got an awesome variety of fancy stitches, thread cutter, needle down and the quilting feet & table. :) Thanks for a chance to win! :)

I sew mostly on my Singer stylist. Good basic machine form the early 60's.
    I love my Bernina serger.
It depends on what you plan to sew.
I mostly craft and make garments.

  156. Thanks for the giveaway! I have a Singer Stylist 7258. It is my first sewing machine and I got it for free with bank card reward points, so I can't complain too much. I have pieced and quilted 6 quilts on it so far, but the throat space is not meant for quilting. I am getting a new Singer Heavy Duty 5532 this week, so I expect to have more ease with quilting bigger things. wonderlandbyalyce at gmail dot com

  157. I have a Janome MC6600P & I love it! It's a powerful machine & it has a big throat space so it's easy to quilt even large quilts on it. The only thing that it doesn't have is a free arm feature but I've managed sewing bags & other things without it so that's not too much of an inconvenience. Thanks for the lovely giveaway.

  158. I am a Brother fan, I gifted myself last Christmas with a Brother 6S6000i machine! It's a good middle of the line machine, I want to learn FMQ so it does do that and came with the foot! And last year amazon.com had it for $159; regular price was over $500. It is a little loud sometimes though! Good luck in your search :)

  159. I have a Pfaff and I love it because it is easy to use and it works really well. However, my aunt has a Bernina and I think if I had to replace my machine I would go with a Bernina. It is really useable and I think it feels more heavy duty.
My recommendation would be to go to the shop with the flimsiest piece of fabric and the fattest quilt sandwich you plan to sew and ask to play with any machine you are considering for about half an hour. This way you can work out if it will sew what you want and how you want. This allows you to make an informed decision, and if the shop won't let you play with the machines then they aren't going to offer great after market service either!!!

  160. Brother PC-420. It's the top rated machine on Amazon, which is where I bought it. It's reasonably priced and has so many great features! I haven't had any problems with it and it's really sturdy. Some people don't like how the needle resets by default to the left, and that did take some getting used to, but I actually find it more useful that way now that I know why it is that way.

    ReplyDelete
  161. I love my Pfaff Creative 2 sewing / embroidery machine as it allows me to do some great FMQ and also embroidery It's more of a mid-range electronic machine and I love it. Thanks for the opportunity on a great draw. Merry Christmas to you.

  164. I had a Singer Confidence and it worked fine.. until it just broke beyond repair after a few years. A part wore out. I have a Vintage Kenmore now and I can't get the FMQ down.. kind of annoying! I'm saving for a Juki 2000qi

  165. I have too many hahaha. But the one I like the most is a Bernina Bernette. I really like it, it's quiet, goes quite fast, doesn't tangle. I wish I had more space in the arm to quilt free handed somewhat easier. I really like it though.

  171. I have a Brother 6000i. When I started sewing again a few years ago, I wanted a new sewing machine but I only had so much money to spend on it. I got this one and haven't had a problem with it yet. It has loads of stitches on it and is really easy to use. Now that I have a bit more money to spend, I might start looking for a machine a step higher up but am not certain since I like this machine.

Right now I have a pretty basic Kenmore. It was great for a beginning.

  176. I've made several Noodlehead wide open pouches - love that pattern!

One of my machines is a Babylock Decorator's choice - I HATE THAT MACHINE. After about 3 years of sewing it started giving me problems and never stopped. Just thinking about that horrid piece of plastic makes me grit my teeth - I would NEVER get another Babylock! Apparently I have the only problem Babylock ever made - lucky me, lol! I prefer my 1953 Singer 201 or my Singer 411 - those metal machines were made to last, although they don't have all the features of the newer machines, they're definitely workhorses :)

  177. I have a Bernina 930. I love it to bits. I never ever have to screw with the tension, and that baby roars. I can really sew with it !

  180. I've got a mid-level Singer and I like that I own it and it works ok most of the time. My sisters each have a similar model that we were all gifted one year. Tension goes out at a whim. If you stop in the wrong place the motor will not turn-if you push the pedal nothing happens. Some of the stitches never have worked and ones that do work are programed in wrong, except the straight stitch thank goodness. It finally sews semi-straight after I've taken off the feed dogs multiple times to clean and reset it. It can sew through three layers of fabric but don't ask it to do four. It's a mechanical one, not electronic. My mums electronic Husqvarna from about 20 years ago sews like a dream. My sisters have had the same problems as me and we each have a slightly different machines but same monetary range. One sister recently got a Brother and is so pleased. I tried it and it was a dream. Hers was a non entry level one. A step or two up from that, also electronic. The mechanical Singer we had from the 70's was great but the new ones have been rubbish. Maybe their electronic line works better.

  183. I actually have two - one is an old White (don't remember the model) that is a bit temperamental because it really needs a tune-up. I also have a new Baby Lock Anna. It's a simple machine (no computer or fancy stitches) but it works like a charm

  184. I have a Brother Innovis 950D - it does lot but I wish I had gone into a bigger and better machine.

  185. I have a very small Janome Hello Kitty machine.. its ridiculous and not very good, but cute!

    ReplyDelete
  186. I have a Brother Project Runway that about 4 years old. I think it was only about $149, but I love it. The only things I would like to have would be an extension table (this one doesn't even have an optional one) and more throat space. Thanks for the chance to win!

    ReplyDelete
  187. I have a Brother Super Galaxie - it was my mum's old machine and I love the stop start button, automatic scissors and enormous range of stitches (even though I know I'll never use most of them!)

    ReplyDelete
  188. I have a Husqvarna Viking Topaz 30. It pretty much does everything for me, in comparison to my previous machine is a massive step up. The best things as far as i am concerned are drop in bobbin and automatic thread cutting.

  189. Funny question... I have a fancy 2002 or so Bernina that's in the shop, it does all sorts of lovely stuff... and a 1980s Kenmore that's perfect (but not fancy) and can stand up to anything and doesn't need to go to the repair man or get a $100 yearly tune-up (are you kidding me? Seriously! that's what the Bernina people recommend!) or really even get cleaned more than once every few years. But the Bernina does have a needle threader, which is nice... Anyhow, you can get a VERY GOOD and cheap Kenmore at Sears that'll last you forever and do nearly everything :) (except programmable embroidery, etc.)
