I have a fancy 2002 or so Bernina that's in the shop, it does all sorts of lovely stuff... and a 1980s Kenmore that's perfect (but not fancy) and can stand up to anything and doesn't need to go to the repair man or get a $100 yearly tune-up (are you kidding me? Seriously! that's what the Bernina people recommend!) or really even get cleaned more than once every few years. But the Bernina does have a needle threader, which is nice... Anyhow, you can get a VERY GOOD and cheap Kenmore at Sears that'll last you forever and do nearly everything :) (except programmable embroidery, etc.)DangAndBlast!https://www.blogger.com/profile/11204540335903358779noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4922087597181262275.post-91187927252279512662012-12-07T09:37:19.429-08:002012-12-07T09:37:19.429-08:00I have a Husqvarna Viking Topaz 30. My sisters each have a similar model that we were all gifted one year. Tension goes out at a whim. If you stop in the wrong place the motor will not turn-if you push the pedal nothing happens. Some of the stitches never have worked and ones that do work are programed in wrong, except the straight stitch thank goodness. It finally sews semi-straight after I've taken off the feed dogs multiple times to clean and reset it. It can sew through three layers of fabric but don't ask it to do four. It's a mechanical one, not electronic. My mums electronic Husqvarna from about 20 years ago sews like a dream. My sisters have had the same problems as me and we each have a slightly different machines but same monetary range. One sister recently got a Brother and is so pleased. I tried it and it was a dream. Hers was a non entry level one. A step or two up from that, also electronic. The mechanical Singer we had from the 70's was great but the new ones have been rubbish. Maybe their electronic line works better.jeifnerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13661991907559740116noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4922087597181262275.post-87452899917565384232012-12-07T00:52:21.119-08:002012-12-07T00:52:21.119-08:00Janome memory craft 3500 - I love at as I have alw...Janome memory craft 3500 - I love at as I have always sewn on it but sometimes I do wish it had a bigger gap for quilting!craftykathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05919377523091514254noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4922087597181262275.post-5548949331817811812012-12-06T22:21:02.516-08:002012-12-06T22:21:02.516-08:00I have a Singer from Kmart ;) I'm not sure wh...I have a Singer from Kmart ;) I'm not sure what model it is. After about 3 years of sewing it started giving me problems and never stopped. Just thinking about that horrid piece of plastic makes me grit my teeth - I would NEVER get another Babylock! Apparently I have the only problem Babylock ever made - lucky me, lol! I prefer my 1953 Singer 201 or my Singer 411 - those metal machines were made to last, although they don't have all the features of the newer machines, they're definitely workhorses :)Sandra :)https://www.blogger.com/profile/16239494415344028806noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4922087597181262275.post-48972614447953027972012-12-06T20:32:45.122-08:002012-12-06T20:32:45.122-08:00I love this topic!
