Stash Bee - Pippi Quilt

This week I have been working hard piecing together my Pippi quilt top

Look.............

I absolutely LOVE IT.

This is intended to be a birthday present for my eldest daughter who is 5 at the end of May, so I do need to crack on and get it finished.

So, now I need your expertise, advice and suggestions please.

How do I quilt this?

You can suggest feathers and squiggles if you like, but the straight line suggestions are more likely to win - as straight lines are about my limit!!

I am thinking of long straight lines (OK long wonky lines) up and down and across the quilt through the coloured squares. Does that make sense??  So what colours would you choose??  I would really welcome any suggestions or ideas please

  1. Wow what a fun quilt! If you are quilting this I would try just straight vertical lines about 2" apart. I' mot good with Fmq so like to try straight lines or my go to wavy line quilting for most things. I would stick to white thread for this one, but it's personal taste really. A colour will accentuate the quilting more. Have fun. It's a great pressie.

  2. Well done on getting this quilt top finished! I love it, so fun and colourful, perfect for a little girl. My suggestion for quilting is to go for a multi-coloured (rainbow) variegated cotton. I used this thread on my string quilt on the white sashing in between the different coloured blocks.

  3. Well done T! It looks like Sarah Fielke's dolly improv pattern, is it? I think I'd quilt just the borders and sashing and leave the doll blocks quilt free :)

  4. I love how your top turned out!! OMG so darn cute! I'd wavey line quilt it on each seam with a multicolor verigated thread, or maybe straight line on each seam. I'm sort of partial to the wavey line though. :D Whatever you do it is going to be fabulous!! :D

  5. that is one of the cutest loveliest tops I've seen, like, ever! I agree with the quilt the sashing only vibe. Maybe hand quilting around the pippies?

  7. I'm a fan of variegated thread for this quilt. Remember to lengthen your stitch. Variegated thread looks better tha way.

  8. It's absolutely fab and she will love it! If I was you I'd quilt it with a big stipple...which is way less stressful to do than straight lines !!!

  9. That looks fantastic and I think there is a certain little lady who will love it!! As you know I'm no expert at quilting but was thinking straight lines with stitching around the blocks to make them stand out.Hxx

  11. Wow they look so great together, I agree wavy lines would be good. Unfortunately I am still waiting for quite a few blocks to arrive and I wanted to gift mine to my brother for his birthday next month as he has been having a tough time.
